Sevelamer Carbonate 400mg & 800mg Tablet

Composition:

Each film coated tablet contains:
Sevelamer Carbonate : 400mg / 800mg

Product Profile

Sevelamer carbonate is an ion-exchange, non-absorbed polymeric amine that binds phosphate and is meant for oral administration. Unlike other phosphate binders, it does not contain calcium or metal, which can stay in the body. It is also not absorbed; therefore, it does not accumulate in the body. By binding phosphate in the dietary tract and thus decreasing phosphate absorption, it effectively lowers serum phosphate in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients on hemodialysis.

Being in buffered form , Sevelemar Carbonate is most preferred PO4 binder. It increases serum bicarbonate and avoids worsening of metabolic acidosis which is a concerning side effect of Sevelemar HCl and other PO4 binders.

Indications:

  • It is being extensively used for treating Hyperphosphatemia that plays a critical role in the development of secondary hyperparathyroidism, renal osteo-dystrophy and soft tissues and vascular calcification, a major risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity in patients receiving dialysis.
  • Prescribed in Uremic HD patients and CKD non-dialysis patients to control Hyperphosphatemia
